A Taste Of Honey -

In 1958, 18-year-old wrote A Taste of Honey as a reaction against the "polite," middle-class dramas of the era. Premiering at the Theatre Royal Stratford East , it became a pioneer of "kitchen sink realism," a movement that brought the gritty lives of the working class to the stage.

Set in Salford, the story follows Jo , a neglected teenager, and her alcoholic mother, Helen . After a brief affair with a Black sailor, Jimmy , Jo becomes pregnant. She eventually moves in with Geoffrey , a gay design student who becomes her "chosen family" and caregiver. A Taste of Honey
